Preparing for Your COVID-19 Vaccination

Preparing for Your COVID-19 Vaccination

I recently got my Covid Vaccine shot. My arm was sore which was normal and then had a slight fever for a couple of days. I asked my wife if she feels anything aside from a sore arm but said she felt fine so there are definitely different side effects to everyone.

I was thinking, what could I have done that or how is my lifestyle so different compared to my wife that it had such a big difference? We both got the same Covid Vaccine which is Moderna. We’re scheduled for a second dose next month and I would like to prepare better this time. CDC shared some guides on how to plan for your Covid-19 vaccination but I would also like to share some ways on what you could do to prepare based on our experience.

1. Rest

Make sure you have enough rest before getting the vaccine. My wife used to work in the graveyard shift but recently changed to morning shifts. She gets better quality sleep since I sleep in the morning. One reason why she got took it way better than me.

2. Eat Healthily

I’m absolutely guilty for not being able to maintain a healthy diet. My wife on the other hand loves veggies, drinks lots of water, and tries to avoid fast food as much as possible.

3. Vitamins

Another not-so-great fact about me is that I don’t take vitamins even though I stay late up at night working. It would have probably help if I had taken vitamin C frequently to boost my immune system and health before getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

4. Take It Easy

After the vaccination, one main difference between me and my wife is that I continued to work at night. I probably should have taken a day off to rest and recover while the vaccine does its job.

5. Paracetamol

Don’t try to tough it. If you feel body pain and even a slight fever just goes ahead and take one paracetamol tablet and lots of fluids. Even the health workers in the center advise that it’s a common side effect and nothing you should worry about.

Speaking of Side effects here are some possible ones after getting a COVID-19 Vaccine:

On the arm where you got the shot:

  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Swelling

Throughout the rest of your body:

  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Nausea

The second shot is what you really have to prepare for as the side effects may be more intense than the ones you experienced after your first shot. These are normal signs that your body is building protection and should go away within a few days.
Whether you work from home or in an office, it’s important to get the Covid-19 vaccine not just for yourself but for the safety of other people too. Let’s all work together and beat this virus.
